The Super Bowl is rapidly approaching and the closer it gets, the more and more people talk about it. As all of this hype builds among the people that actually watch through the season, I sit among these conversations and realize that I don't care at all about the actual game, and have started to use the event as an excuse to eat lots of crappy food and get lots of my friends together, because nobody would ever dare schedule something during the Super Bowl. Ever since the Janet Jackson deal, which me and my friends watched live, the game has never been worth watching. I'm probably just preaching to the choir, so consider this my declaration that I don't give a flying poo about the game.
Due to the uneventfulness of today and it being one of my few Friday's where I'm in town, I'm gonna throw in the towel early today.

Livin La Vida Loca 2-4-10 (Day 11)
For the second
day in a row I managed to sleep in, past two alarms I set for myself and ended up rushing out the door again. Like yesterday I absolutely had to have my coffee but today I was quick enough to make a lunch, so I'm closer than ever to buying a real iPhone case. I say "real" because the one that I have was bought off of this kid at school for $5, and that's all that it's truly worth. The main thing that nags at me about it is that it shows the Apple logo on the back so it could get scratched up I guess. I know I shouldn't be worrying about something as stupid as this but I treat my valuable electronics too well not be buy a nicer one. I put a picture of a case that looks like it up, but just imagine that it's hard and white...
Speaking of the kid who sold that case to me, I started to notice something about people in general over the last 2 years or so. I'm in a lot of "smart classes", largely because I'm not stupid, but also partly because I'm too competitive to drop any of my classes. I'm sure it's like this in every other school in America, but being an athlete in a schedule of classes like I have is a really lonely world. You end up meeting a lot of weird kids but also a lot of kids who you would've never talked to if it weren't for you sitting next to them, who turn out to be awesome people. It's the idea that there's a plethora of people, who are shy for whatever reason that actually turn out to be nicer, cooler people than even some of my close friends, that bugs me. I've always encouraged people who might be a little more shy than others, to start talking for that exact reason; they usually turn out to be super nice. So a message to all of the shy folk out there, don't be waiting on someone to count you in. Myself along with every other human on the planet likes being talked to, so sack up and say hello. It almost sounds like the shy folk could be a cult living in rural Iowa, but I assure you, it wasn't meant that way......... or was it?
La vida loca successful avoided me today, and now I've got food to eat and work to do.

Amateur Decisions 2-3-10 (Day 10)
This morning I overslept, so I had time to do about half of the things that I usually do when I wake up. At the time it seemed like the best decision, but in retrospective I believe I was an idiot for those first 30 minutes of today. Instead of eating breaky, which I love, or making a lunch, I decided to pour myself a shitty cup of coffee to drink on the way to school. Like I said, it seemed like a great idea at the time, but here I am, $8 poorer from having to buy lunch at Lover's Eggroll. Any young-guns out there do the same thing before? And I'm not talking about all you codgers out there, because I know my dad, and especially my mom would find that perfectly acceptable. Despite the brain-fart decision this morning, I'm not at addict status but I sure as hell love my coffee.
It's weird that I mentioned Lover's Eggroll in such a negative light because me and a couple buddies have gone there everyday for lunch for the past 3 months or so. It's one of those Chinese places that look super crappy until you try their food, which is flat out orgasmic. As long as you don't end up playing hockey on a stomach full of sweet and sour chicken (another amateur decision on my part), there's really nothing on the menu that's not good. Something that we noticed there today was that for all of the time we'd been going there, they had never played music in the background. The reason we noticed was that for the first time, they had the radio on while we were eating. This got me thinking, and I've finalized the background-music-in-moderately-priced-restaurants theory. Basically, the less you notice the music, the better the music is for being played in the background. Don't misread that and see that the less you notice it, the better the music is, because regular music and background music are completely different. I don't feel the necessity to explain the obvious difference between the two so I leave that comparison up for debate.
I wish my iPhone could catch pictures in the dark better, but as I was driving home today, this minivan took the same left as me into the opposite lane of traffic. After they were on the wrong side of the street, you couldn't get back over because of a super wide medium, so if there were more cars coming, they would've been screwed. Luckily for them, there was only one car going the other way, and they managed to miss each other by a safe enough distance. If it wasn't a minivan, possibly with kids inside, it would've been crazy to see an accident like that. It's terrible of me to say, I know, but I'm just speaking the truth.......I would've stopped to help though. See know I feel bad about saying it in the first place.
Now that I'm out $8, I'll be exactly $8 short of getting a new iPhone case. Moral of today; give yourself a nice pinch before making any important decisions in the early morning.

Steve Jobs' Orchard of Perfection 2-2-10 (Day 9)
Geez it's been a few days since I've actually had time to sit down and write a full blog, but today I'm back and hopefully for good. The reason behind not posting is split between being on a bus to/from Nebraska and (yesterday) having way too much school work to even think about writing anything. It does feel good to get back in the swing of things though.
The iPad was announced recently; not sure if it was during my lapse in writing or not, but nevertheless, it's here. I've said before that before I got my iPhone that I was a PC fanboy, but since getting it, I've been infatuated with what Apple has to offer. There's still not too much info to be had about the device, but enough to know that I want one. Sure it might be an oversized iPhone, and not do much more than any of Apple's other products, but there's a few reasons why I really like it. For one, I'll bet that there's really more to the device than we're all aware of. Today there was an update for the Nexus One which allowed the phone to sport the multi-touch ability in a few of its apps, and it seems like that would be something you couldn't just implement in a patch. This leads me to believe that Apple might end up releasing some sort of new technology/app for this device after release, or just hasn't released the info to the public yet. If I had the green for one of them, I'd be standing in line for one in March (allegedly), but the sad fact of the matter is that I don't.
Speaking of Apple products, I was also thinking about getting a Macbook, but really really really don't want to go through the trouble of selling my XPS 1530. Basically, if I wasn't such a lazy poo, I'd be writing an ad for this laptop instead of writing about writing an ad... in this post. Oh, how I love trying to translate a complex thought into text! I think I covered the jist of it though. The way I see it is with a new, custom built Win7 desktop, there's nothing holding me back from getting one before I leave for college, a year and few months from now. Apple does this nice little thing when the school year rolls around by offering an iPod with every Macbook, so it would almost be like the laptop would be minus the price of the iPod whenever I decided to take the plunge and buy one. I can see myself sticking with Apple phones and having the common interface through a Macbook would be awesome.
Today while I was thinking about PCs and Macs, I realized something insane. Macs are unquestionably the easier of the two to use and in many ways, the better of the two. The main difference that I see between the two is that PCs have the ability to be upgraded and have the option to use lots of software that Macs can't use at all, while Macs are sort of their own entity, functioning on all Apple technology. With PCs you have a different brand for your keyboard, mouse, monitor, memory, cpu, graphics, motherboard, router, hard drives, etc., while Apple creates alot of this stuff to be used with, and only with other Apple products. Yes, I realize that Apple doesn't produce its own RAM, but physical user interaction with the part is non-existent , so people have come to think of Apple's Macs as more of an all-in-one deal. Having all of this technology branded by one company is extremely efficient for Apple and has resulted in a near flawless computing experience. This is where I started really thinking about the situation. It really doesn't take too many people for Apple to hire for production of a specific product, such as their router, and therefore creates less jobs. Sure, Apple might be making a hefty profit, but in a comparable PC router marketplace, the companies are able to provide infinitely more jobs than Apple. These additional peoples' incomes fuel the economy, and assist it that much more than Apple.
It's probably not the most accurate account of the situation, but it seems like even though Apple is the more complete, idealistic company, the other less profitable, imperfect companies that exist, end up being better in the long run. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Silos and Pancakes 1-29-10 (Day 5)
So today we woke up from sleeping on our charter bus and went straight to breakfast at around 8. After driving past endless fields of corn we get to this place called the cozy inn cafe that looked like it was straight out of the 1950's. Our bus pulls around back and there's 8, maybe, 80 foot tall silos used for god knows what. As were all unloading, the cook comes out of the back and tells us to come in through the kitchen for whatever reason. All weird stuff aside, the people there were probably the nicest I've ever met.
We didn't end up getting to the hotel until after our first game, but now that we're actually here, all there's left to do is get my snooze on. Were all gonna see a USHL game later today but all I'm gonna say is that it better outweigh the alternative of another 3 hours of shut eye.
Oh! Don't know why everyone's hatin, but I really really want one of the ipads. It's just a matter of having the money to blow. Does everyone hate Apple's latest? Sure as he'll seems like it.

Cornhuskers 1-28-10 (Day 4)
The other day I was talking about a business idea that I had, and how I thought it was gonna be the next big thing. With this company, I was going to create a vitamin/supplement company who could cater to peoples needs throughout their life via emails and offers. Like make some kick ass flintstone vitamins and continue selling these same people supplements for as logg as possible. The invention part of the whole gig was being able to condense that nasty protien powder into pills you could swallow without having to taste anything. The real brilliance of the whole business plan was in the advertising of it all though. Like those TOMS shoes, I'd donate an equivalent amount life sustaining pills or condensed meals (whatevers feasible) for every unit I sold. To keep this effort independent of politics, instead of just donating this to the "Africa cause" like everyone else, it would go to natural disaster victims and use the sympathy for these people as a
basis for my advertising. Later that day I found out that whenever you condense a protien, it alters the makeup of the protien and turns it into something completely different. So in the end my idea wouldve never worked, but it's still cool to know there's plenty of crazy profitable ways to avoid sitting at a desk untilf you're 30.

I'm currently on a 12 hour bus to Nebraska so I'm gonna opt to skimp on today's write. But hey, I'm using the iPhone :)
